Sectional Felling/Removal

Sectional Removal is the process of removing a tree’s trunk in sections after complete limb removal, usually because the trunk cannot be felled safely due to either space restrictions, the shape and balance of the trunk or the presence of underground services that may be damaged by the impact of the entire trunk hitting the ground.

The trunk is climbed and the sections are roped off, cut and dropped in to a lowering system comprising of a lowering rope, pulley and a capstan-style or mechanical lowering device that allows the section of trunk to be lowered in a controlled manner to the ground.

Where very large trunks have to be removed, a mobile crane is often used to lower the sections to the ground after cutting.
